During the manslaughter trial of Dr. Conrad Murray on Friday, the defense’s final witness testified that Michael Jackson probably caused his own death by injecting himself with a lethal dose of propofol.
Dr. Paul White, an anesthesiologist brought to the stand to counter the prosecution’s primary medical witness, told jurors he believes the insomnia-addled King of Pop took lorezepam, a sedative, and then self-administered the propofol that killed him.
“You think it was a self-injection of propofol between 11:30 and 12?” asked Murray’s lawyer, J. Michael Flanagan.
White replied, “In my opinion, yes.”
Murray’s defense team is hoping to establish the case that Jackson – not the doctor – administered the drug that ended his life in June 2009.
Dr. Steven Shafer, an expert for the prosecution, has said that he believes it’s highly unlikely Jackson gave himself the propofol.
Jurors still have to make up their minds, but members of the Jackson family were not swayed by White’s testimony.
“MiCHAEL DID NOT KILL HIMSELF!!! HE WOULD NEVER DO THAT! tweeted the late icon’s sister, La Toya Jackson, after today’s claims.
